Manna Pro Oyster Shell Calcium Supplement

Full review

Keeping a backyard flock of laying hens productive and healthy means paying close attention to their nutritional needs, and calcium sits right at the top of that list. Manna Pro Oyster Shell Calcium Supplement is formulated specifically for laying hens whose bodies demand a steady, reliable source of calcium to produce strong, crack-resistant eggshells day after day. Made from crushed oyster shells, this supplement provides a slow-dissolving form of calcium that releases gradually in the hen's digestive system, which is particularly valuable overnight when shell formation is actively taking place. For homesteaders raising chickens for consistent egg production, this product addresses one of the most common issues flock keepers encounter: thin, soft, or misshapen eggshells caused by calcium deficiency.

What makes this supplement especially practical for backyard chicken keepers is its free-choice feeding design. Rather than mixing it directly into feed, Manna Pro Oyster Shell is meant to be offered in a separate dish or feeder alongside the regular layer feed, allowing each hen to self-regulate her calcium intake according to her individual needs. This is important because not all hens require the same amount of calcium at the same time, as factors like age, breed, and egg-laying frequency all influence how much calcium an individual bird needs. By giving hens the choice to peck at the oyster shell as needed, flock owners can avoid both under-supplementation, which leads to weak shells, and over-supplementation, which can strain kidney function in birds not actively laying.

Beyond the immediate benefit of stronger eggshells, consistent use of oyster shell calcium supports the long-term skeletal health of laying hens, since hens that don't get enough calcium from their diet will draw it from their own bones, leading to weakened skeletal structure over time. This makes the product valuable not just for egg quality but for the overall wellbeing and longevity of the flock. Easy to store, simple to dispense, and compatible with virtually any layer feed program, Manna Pro Oyster Shell Calcium Supplement is a staple that experienced homesteaders and new backyard chicken keepers alike can rely on to keep their hens laying well and staying healthy throughout their productive years.
